I would like to make a PhD in Computer Science about Robotics or Computational Photography.

Hi,
My name is Martino, I have a master degree in Computer Science and I would like to do a PhD in Computational Photography or in Robotics. I don't know how to choose, could you give me some advice?
I started to search for a PhD programme but I am not sure where to look, do you have any good website?
Thank you in advance,
Martino

Hi Martino!

I graduated with my Masters last summer from a school that is regarded one of the best public schools in my field. So, first things first you need to decide what you want to major in: Computational Photography or Robotics. I'd suggest considering what you feel most passionate about, regardless of any incentive or expectation. Since it's PhD there will be some tough times and it's important to work in a field you are truly passionate about.

Second step would be to research lists of schools that are well known for the major you've decided on and that means also looking at schools that may not be in your budget. Once you've narrowed down the schools you are interested in, start getting in touch with the faculty that have projects in your field. This will give you a fair understanding of the funding the professor has and if you'd be eligible for it.

These are my suggestions. Good luck!

I studied robotics at Carnegie Mellon way back in the 70's and it was a robust program even then. I expect most schools have robotics programs if they have any engineering at all these days. Here are some top robotics schools. Check out their websites.

  1. Carnegie-Mellon University. M.S. in Robotic Systems Development.
  2. University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Robotics Masters and PhD Program. ...
  3. Georgia Institute of Technology. ...
  4. Oregon State University. ...
  5. Johns Hopkins University. ...
  6. Massachusetts Institute of Technology. ...
  7. University of Southern California. ...
  8. University of Pennsylvania. ...
