Anthony’s Answer

Hey Charles,

As stated above, metaphysics is a branch of philosophy, so philosophy major would be where to study that. But I noticed you tagged your question biology, can I ask more specifically your goal?

As for good primers on metaphysics check out Metaphysics by Aristotle.

A basic description of the branches of philosophy are:

1. Metaphysics (the study of what is); 2. Epistemology (the study of knowledge); 3. Ethics (the study of right/wrong); 4. Politics (the study of how we should interact); 5. Aesthetics (the study of beauty)

Metaphysics asks "Where am I?", Epistemology asks "How do I know?", Ethics asks "What should I do?", Politics asks "How do I treat others/how should others treat me?"; and Aesthetics asks "What is beautiful?"

Hope that helps a bit.

Keith’s Answer

Hi Charles,

Metaphysics is defined as a branch of philosophy, and is something that you would study as a philosophy major.

Sometimes metaphysics is used to refer to New Age and Spiritual practices. These fields of study and the institutions that offer instruction in them are not recognized by reputable accrediting agencies. I would strongly discourage you from attending one of these institutions.
