Prentice’s Answer

There are many, many ways to stand out not only to scouts but to anyone that loves the sport. The best way and I cannot stress enough, is PRACTICE. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Practicing prepares you for these exact moments. When you practice a lot, actual gameplay becomes second nature and you make the right basketball decisions naturally. Scouts look for players that the “game” comes to them. The best way to get the game to come to you is practice. Situations will arise in games and your mind and body will just make the right move. Comparatively, people who do not practice will freeze and not always make the best basketball decision. Awareness is almost as important in basketball as it is in actually being gifted in the sport.

Jenny’s Answer

My son was able to secure a full scholarship playing basketball at his university by playing during their summer camps, joining travel ball teams, and most importantly working on his game constantly. He was always open to playing different positions and did his best at each one although he prefers being a guard. His caught the eyes of his current university coach because of that flexibility. He played each position well and was a role player. Best of luck!

Thank you comment icon Thank for the advice and for wishing me luck. Ramses
Thank you comment icon On a side note beware of companies that offer to put together highlight videos for you and online profile for thousands of dollars. While this may work for some, it is not necessary. You can put your own video together and place it on youtube for reference. We sent our own video to recruiting coaches ourselves. You can find their information and e-mails on the university websites under their athletic departments tab. Do join inexpensive travel ball teams so you can go to tournaments, specially at high school levels. Coaches will be there regardless. If you play well you will be seen. Jenny Taufahema
