David’s Answer

You can definitely become a delivery driver for local food vendor but if you are aiming higher like driving a 18 wheeler or commercial vehicle then you need a class license for that. Since I see you say you like riding your e-bike, definitely look food vendor will hire you for doing delivery.

Jason’s Answer

Everything starts off small even for multi-billion dollar company. Some of them started off as a hawker on the street such as the ex-president of Alibaba, Mr Jack Ma. Your goal of becoming a delivery driver is nothing small for me. In fact it might turn into a food delivery version of FedEx or UPS. With the help of technology and driverless car nothing is impossible now.

If you have the passion of becoming a driver you can start off by getting a driver licence and get used the life behind the wheels. During summer if Uber Eats is available if your area I encourage to sign up as a driver so you can get the feel of it during your spare time.

After the experience for a period of time if you decide this is still your passion then please by all means dive right in. I have been working for 10 years now and the advice I can give you is you might not need a college degree in life but you must have the mindset for improvement. Learn something new such a a new language which will open more a lot more doors. Use your gap year to go see the world. You might get inspired by what's happening around you and bring the idea home.

Last but not least follow your heart and be fearless. You got nothing to lose anyway!

Why not? You can just go and ask any restaurants to cooperate with you. During the COVID-19 period, I think many restaurants would like to offer take-away services.

Blake’s Answer

Hey Holden,

Yes. It depends on what kind of delivery driver you wish to become. If you work for a local restaurant, you most likely won't need any special licenses. However, as Lee stated above, if the class of vehicle is larger than a typical car, you would need a special license.

Thanks,
Blake

Dora’s Answer

Of course you can.

Especially during this COVID-19, people would like to stay home to reduce gathering, so many restaurants need support to delivering take away food, or deliver frozen food to home from food supplier. Just ensure you get enough hygiene supply to protect yourself.

Ask some local businesses. They may be willing to pay you under the table, especially with places like GrubHub taking bigger cuts than normal during COVID.
