How did you know what you wanted your profession to be in the end?

Personally I have a couple of things I want to do but I don't exactly know what to go with. #profession

When I was younger my family would always tell me that I would be a great lawyer, so much so that I decided that that was what I was going to do. However, when I started high school I became more interested in other areas, and one in particular was accounting and finance. I've always been fascinated with money, budgets, and economics so it was not that big of a leap for me. When I found this interest I immediately started thinking about the ways I could pair it with a law degree so that I could still be the lawyer that everyone, and slightly less myself, wanted me to be. So I set out to college with a double major in Political Science and Accounting. I maintained both and earned both of my degrees. I applied to some law schools and was fortunate enough to receive a full tuition scholarship to a law school in Boston, MA. However, I was unaware about the costs of living and how I was going to take care of myself while in law school so I also applied for a job at PwC in Boston. My job started before my 1L Fall semester was set to start. Once I started my career at PwC and got to experience and feed my love for accounting even more law school became an afterthought. I had a really tough conversation with myself and my family about how law school just wasn't in my heart at the moment and maybe one day it would be, but as for right now my heart is in accounting and state and local taxes and that's what I want to do and need to do in order to be happy with where I am at in life. So, I made the decision to defer my seat in law school and continue to work full time for PwC and it has honestly been the best decision I could have made for myself and I am now pursuing my MBA in accounting. I say all this to say, your heart will know. If you find yourself not dreading going to work and passionate about what you are doing, you're in the right field. And if you change your mind later in life, that's okay! Don't let time or age stop you from going after your passions and dreams!

I became a CNA at 17 and knew then that I loved health care. I was a CNA for ten years before I became a nurse. As a nurse I worked in a few different roles. With my experience I have trained a lot of nurses and discovered my passion for teaching, at 38 years old with four children I am back in school for my master's degree in nursing education.

You might evolve as you age, my recommendation is find a career you can grow with.
