Sean’s Answer

Typically you will want to take coursework at your high school, college or technical school. There are also coding schools out there that will help with broad coding concepts or focused on a single technology like Java or others. Personally when I am looking for a software developer, regardless of the level we are looking to hire (entry-level or senior) I look for some previous coding experience either in their school coursework or at previous employers. Most high-schools today have a technical elective track that will give some good coding exposure. There are also online schools that you can learn at your own pace and good old fashioned books are a good reference to get experience. If you are in college, then a Computer Science or MIS degree are your best bets to get a solid foundation to take into the start of your professional career. In either college or high school, your counselors could definitely help you pick the right coursework, but most major colleges now support this curriculum.

You don't need to take extra courses. I believe you need to join the computer science group during high school. Then take a bachelor in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or computer engineering. All these majors are similar but very different in the same time. I urge you to research them to find what works best for you. In the mean time, check these links below.

Rajeev’s Answer

I was in same boat when i was in high school. I always aspired to become a software engineer. So for that i have taken Computer Science during my high school and then i pursed Computer science engineering as my graduation degree. You can also pursue Bachelor in Computer Application as well for that. While doing that you can go through various online course platform like udemy, pluralsight, linked-in learning etc to learn about different programming language. Most important part of Software Engineer is to learn basics about programming, algorithms and practice them alot. This is how i grown up in my current role so far.
