How do you make a resume, and a cover letter for a resume?

I want to get a job at a college as a computer technician, and you have to make a resume with cover letter. #resume-writing

Thank you comment icon For anyone who still has this question, I'd like to add that creating a list of all your activities and work experience over the past ~4 years is a good starting point. Be sure to include dates and any important, relevant information without being too wordy. I've also found it helpful to organize your resume in reverse-chronological order for every subsection so that the interviewer can spot your recent accomplishments easily. Best of luck! Hi there, A resume is a formal document which lists your education, and any work or community service experience, as well as any extracurricular activities. A cover letter is used when you apply for a job or when requesting to meet with someone, perhaps for an informational interview. I would be happy to email you guidelines and samples for both. Just look me up on LinkedIn, click on contact info and email me.

Hey Justin,

As someone commented above describing the definitions of each, a cover letter and a resume, I thought it would also be helpful to give you some tips on crafting them. In order to stand out and get the job you really want, you need to tailor your resume specific to the job posting you are trying to get. That means, go into the job-ad you are applying for and read it carefully. Try to think about your work experience and use the post to guide the language and types of work you highlight in your resume. Unfortunately, this means you will need to edit your resume slightly for every job you apply to, which is a lot of work. But I promise using this technique will get you more job interviews. Especially in today's age where a lot of companies use different software to analyze your application before an actual person even looks at it. The software will look to match key words from the job-posting with words in your resume. If you follow the above technique, you will almost always make it through the automation phase to a real person. Then it's up to you and not a piece of paper to show who you are as an employee.

Finally, with regards to the cover letter, again this isn't something you can just have a stock version sitting around to attach to all your applications. Each cover letter must be tailored to the job, personal to the reader (ie addressed to them specifically) and then why you would make a good fit for that particular position. Anyway, I hope you found some of this helpful.

Best regards,

Anthony

The cover letter can be more important then your resume ! Look at it this way. Your cover letter is more important than your resume itself, since if it doesn't impress it the reader, he or she may not even look at your resume! So here are a few suggestions on the cover letter! 1. your first thing you should type your is your name, address, zip code, phone # and date in the right hand corner#2. On right side type in the name of the person you are writing to and Dear Mr and name Mr Jones ( Dear Mr. Jones#3 The third process should be an opening couple of lines to tell them your interest in their company and will forward your resume for their review. #4 The second paragraph should be Your experiences that you have within your career that would tell them something about the line of business and if you upgraded custom and vender relations, or if you increased the dollar volume and the percentage. Anything that you did for another company or in college that brought profits to that company!#5 The 4th paragraph should tell them what position you are looking for and where your experience comes from, and what kind of positive contribution to the company # 6. Your closing paragraph should say "I will contact you in a few days to arrange a meeting for further discussion, and you could enclose your resume if they didn't already have it .only4 short paragraphs should be on cover letter. Resume : #!7Type on nice paper starting with a very2- 4 lines short. Usually, your cover letter is supposed to be brief and mostly explain your interest in the opening and in the company itself. Try to keep your cover letter to five sentences or less. Also, try not to be super dramatic about how much you'd love the position and how it'll fulfill your wildest ambitions. Instead, keep it pretty contained and professional. The cover letter is more of a warm-up/opener to the resume and isn't supposed to be the focal point of your application.

For your resume, try to make it as clear and legible as possible, with the most relevant experience and education near the top. For the most relevant experience and education, add some bullet points describing in more detail what you did, learned, or led. For volunteer and hobby items, keep them brief and to the point unless you showed leadership ability, in which case add some details. Overall, make sure that your resume is not longer than two pages. Remember that a recruiter will be going through stacks of resumes, so its important that they can find all the important info in the eight to ten seconds they will likely spend reading it (they won't be reading it word for word from beginning to end; they'll be skimming it).
