What are some good places for scholarships?

I am a junior in high school and I've always been concerned if I will have enough money to fund my education in college. That is why I've been skimming on the web for good scholarships but don't find many that fall in my category, especially in science and math. Fast-web hasn't helped me much even though many say that it helps various students. #college #money #scholarships

There are many scholarships available for students who want to study science and math. The college/university you apply to will have scholarships for which you can apply. Also, if you live in Chicago, New York City, or Los Angeles, you can visit "The Foundation Center" - a library set up by foundations where you can research scholarships. They have librarians who can assist you, and the Center is free of charge. On the Internet, just look up "The Foundation Center" and their website will give you hours and locations. It's definitely worth a visit - and give yourself at least two hours and bring lots of paper to write down all the opportunities! Good luck!

Great question. Also, good for you for taking charge of this - it's so important to get on top of this early and you're on the right track!

Here's a list of some of the common scholarship search services:

You can read more about how these are calculated by clicking here.

Again, I'd like to commend you for staying on top of this. Another thing to keep in mind is that scholarship funds are in the business of giving out scholarship money to deserving students like yourself. If you don't think you meet 100% of the requirements for a scholarship, it still might be worth calling them to see if you should apply, or even just taking a chance and trying to apply anyway.

Also: Thanks for letting us know about how fastweb didn't help you out much. Any idea why they weren't helpful? They're considered one of the biggest players in this space.

Thank you comment icon Well see, I've applied for a couple of scholarships on Fastweb but sometimes it just doesn't allow me to apply or just doesn't notify me about my progress. It may be the scholarship itself that is not notifying me about my progress but this has happened to me a lot. Also, like I said, I don't find many scholarships that catch my attention or interests, so it gets a bit disappointing and overwhelming after a while. Ricardo

My daughter is a junior in high school. I would suggest starting with reaching out to your guidance counselor. Your guidance counselor should be able to provide you with a wide variety of scholarships available.

Eva’s Answer

When a scholarship form asks you to write an essay about something you don't know much about, there are two things you can do: (1) research it on line (being careful not to plagiarize anything you see online!) to learn more about it, and (2) write your essay with honesty and correct spelling and grammar. Often, the essays are there to evidence your writing and thought organizational skills rather than your level of knowledge of the subject.

I found this question by googling "fastweb didn't help" because I had the same problem not finding any scholarships related to my career path or they would involve writing essays about things I know little to nothing about.
