David’s Answer

Huntington Beach, CA is known as Surf City USA! That said, California is a rather expensive place to live. Hawaii is also a year-round spot, but also expensive. I've heard of surfing in the East Coast as well, but don't know how common that is since it gets cold. Florida? Texas?

Alejandra’s Answer

Hi Seth!

I grew in San Diego and David's answer is 100% right, Huntington Beach, CA is a great place to surf and they hold the US Open for surfing there. It. can get expensive to live in the area, but if you live more inland as long as you can get to the beach in a car you can find bargain places to live so you can practice year-round.

I also live in NYC and people also surf here year-round as well! I've gone surfing here and the waves are definitely not as large and consistent as the west coast, but that being said there are some amazing surfers doing great tricks on the waves. I also heard there are wetsuits that you can get that are built for winter surfing, they apparently use a special type of material that generates heat to keep you warm even if it's snowing outside.

Another great easy access place to surf (but outside the US) is Baja California, MX. It's easily accessible from San Diego and there are great beaches there. If you decide to head west coast make sure that you capitalize on all the surfing up and down the coast, it's a great place to explore and meet other surfers that can give you less popular spots to practice.

Good luck!
