Scott’s Answer

You'll "typically" need a bachelors degree in information technology, not just a computer science degree. Unlike business analysts, systems analysts do have to be reasonably technical, especially knowing how subsystems communicate.

If a bachelors degree in IT takes too much time, consider starting with a certificate in systems analysis from an accredited university, perhaps also continuing towards the bachelors as you go.

Maria’s Answer

Employers still prefer a bachelor degree (4 year degree) for most computer related jobs, but with the growing demand for tech workers, you can find positions that don't require a degree. Long term, you salary will be higher with a degree. There are many computer field degrees that would align with "computer systems analyst", but I think a "Computer Information Systems" degree is well matched.

Without a degree, general computer certifications would be helpful, like CompTIA+ IT Fundamentals. Some knowledge of programming and/or basic understanding of networking would be helpful. Everything is going to the cloud so cloud architecture knowledge would be super helpful!

In general, you would want to understand computer systems architecture and how the systems benefit / impact the business. Here's the "Computer Systems Analyst" job description and qualifications on Indeed (a job posting website): https://www.indeed.com/hire/job-description/computer-systems-analyst?hl=en&co=US .

Multiple choices, you can start acquiring certifications on systems you like/want 1st. Then, bachelor degree on Information Technology will open to more possibilities in your career by providing foundational knowledge on several architectural layers that might compose the systems you are going to work on.
