Hi Junior in New York City.

To answer your question, it takes approximately 2 months of full time studying (8 hours per day, 6 days a week) to prepare for the bar exam. Normally, you finish law school in May, start studying in June, and take the bar exam at the end of July. The bar exam is offered twice (July and February).

Because New York is the second hardest bar exam in the country, if you pass NY, you are waived into certain other states as well (depending on your score). There are also many law school graduates that opt to take the New Jersey bar and the Connecticut bar the same time they take the NY bar exam (two days for NY, straight to NJ for the next day, then to CT for the last day).

However the idea is not to collect bar admissions in all the states. You only need to be admitted in the state you practice. Should you choose to relocated, you can always take the bar exam in the new state at anytime.
