Read to find out how software company, New Relic, has teamed up with CareerVillage.org to create meaningful onboarding experiences that benefit the company, its new hires, and the community at large.
New Relic and CareerVillage New Hire Events
New Relic is a longtime corporate partner of CareerVillage and an organization that is dedicated to encouraging employees to give back to their communities from day one.
New Relic has demonstrated its commitment to social impact by making CareerVillage volunteer events a central part of employee onboarding. New Relic Social Impact Manager, Lauren Keeler, explained how it works: “At New Relic, every quarter we invite all Relics who were hired in the previous quarter to join us for a virtual Career Advice Party, supporting CareerVillage. We spend an hour encouraging connection by collaborating on student questions, leveraging challenges, and prompting volunteers with career-related ice-breaker questions. “
The result of these efforts has been a formidable impact on students at CareerVillage. Over 1,000 New Relic volunteers have registered on CareerVillage, and given over 3,000 pieces of advice. The knowledge shared by these volunteers has been viewed over 2 million times on the platform.
Lauren shared more about the benefits of incorporating volunteering into the new hire experience: “We were looking for an opportunity to bring new employees from all over the US together in our flex-first environment in a meaningful way. Spending an hour getting to know your colleagues and sharing your personal experiences and advice with students connects you right away to our core values and social impact mission. We want employees to be excited about all the ways they can support their communities from the start of their time at New Relic. “
Volunteer Onboarding Activities Encourage a Sense of Community
When asked why New Relic chooses to partner with CareerVillage, Lauren explained that “at New Relic, we focus our Social Impact work on driving equitable access to technology, and one of the ways we do that is through inspiring and equipping the next generation of technologists. Partnering with CareerVillage gives our employees the opportunity to have a direct impact on students entering the workforce and share their journeys and experiences to inspire them to think about careers in tech. We love to frame the opportunity with new hires as a way to pay it forward – they’ve just got an exciting new role, so it’s the perfect time to provide advice and support to someone else on their career journey.”
Companies, like New Relic, which encourage and support volunteering, are paving the way for a more sustainable and compassionate corporate future. They demonstrate that businesses can be agents of social change, creating ripples of positive impact that stretch far beyond office walls.
