Should I wait until I'm in college to do interneships for physical therapy?
I am currently a junior in high school. I was wondering if I should go ahead and look for internship opportunities or if I should wait until I'm in college. Would it be more beneficial to wait until I'm in college? #physical-therapist #physical-therapy #internship

Hi Kirsten:
I would look for internships or volunteer opportunities now. It will give you a chance to learn about physical therapy up close and help you decide if this is what you want to do. Our clinic had many high school students mostly in the summer and they went on to careers in physical therapy. Also, if they performed well, we were happy to write letters of reference for them.
So its never too soon to start. Good luck

Hi Kirsten,
Yes, I think it would be helpful to look into internships while in high school if they are available to you. Our office does not provide formal internships but we offer opportunities for observation. Different facilities offer various types of internships, volunteer opportunities or observation opportunities for high school students. All of the high school students that we have had the pleasure of spending time with us observing over their school breaks have told us it was very helpful. It will give you the chance to see what the field is like and ask questions. It can be very affirming to your plan to go into Physical Therapy. You may receive helpful advice about planning for college. Good luck to you!
