What guidance is needed for my career path?

I am torn between what I want to pursue after college: opening up my own dance studio or teaching in a high school. I currently have a psychology education major with two business minors in entrepreneurship and business administration, so as of right now I will graduate with the experience and degrees needed for either one. I am worried about the course load, and was thinking about dropping my entrepreneurship minor. Would this make sense or is this minor really crucial for what I want to do?

My take is that dropping the minor is fine, and just take the courses that you find interesting there instead. Business and entrepreneurship are best learned "in the field" - whereas for psychology education, that is not so much the case, and you will need that major to pursue next steps.

For business and entrepreneurship, my recommendation instead would be to find a CEO of a small or medium business who you can chat with - I suspect you will learn way more than a minor, and will be a more efficient use of your time. And you can always go back and take those courses later if you really, really want to.

Look for 2-3 CEOs in your local area of small/medium businesses to do a quick coffee chat or virtual-connect with.

Discover the courses you'd need to finish the minor, gauge the time commitment, and assess your interest level. If a subject truly sparks your passion and the classes excite you, you'll find the time! If it seems just "okay", don't stress if you let it go. The minor isn't the deciding factor in your success. As long as you're resourceful, you'll do great!

I recommend choosing a path where you believe in your abilities, even if it's not something you're particularly fond of. Your preferences can shift over time, but being skilled at something often leads to success.

Regarding your minor, if you're considering starting a dance studio, learning entrepreneurship could be very beneficial!

Hi Gabriella,

You have multiple choices. I would choose the job you are interested in the most. If that does not work out, I will go with the 2nd choice. Your instinct is often right. Another way is to join an internship. This would give you an opportunity to explore your career or interest.
