What is a typical day in the life of a cardiac surgeon? How often do you interact with patients and other staff, how do you prep for surgery, etc?

I'm a high school sophomore doing career research and I'm thinking about becoming a cardiovascular surgeon. I've always been interested in healthcare and becoming a surgeon so I'd love some input.

Hi Annie!
A typical day for a cardiac surgeon would be hectic!! :-)
The days will be crowded and crushed with patients, checking their reports and physical assessments.
A cardiac surgeon starts their day early by reviewing patient information and preparing for surgeries. They spend the morning and early afternoon in the operating room, working with a team to perform heart surgeries. After surgery, they check on their patients to ensure they are recovering well.
In the afternoon, they meet with other patients for follow-ups and consultations. Their evening involves updating patient records and sometimes teaching or doing research. The journey to becoming a cardiac surgeon is long but rewarding, requiring a lot of education and training. Volunteering at a hospital can be a great way to learn more about this career.
Good luck, Annie!
