Hello Taylor,

Majoring in Anthropology does not limit you to the types of jobs that you may have. You are able to work in Higher Education, Teaching, Non-Profit, and Politics to just name a few fields. It is important to figure out what you would like to do in the field of Anthropology. I encourage you to speak to various professionals in the field to get their insight. I also encourage you to partake in conferences and other events held by the American Anthropological Association as it is a good way to get into the field.

From personal experience, I work in Higher Education and I majored in Anthropology and Religion in College. The American Anthropological Association was very helpful to me in learning what I could do with my degree. I also spoke at length with the Anthropology Department at the University I attended (CUNY Hunter), and my professors. The information I received was very valuable is deciding what to do career wise.

I hope this helps, good luck!

Arianna recommends the following next steps:

Talk to the Anthropology Department at your school about career options.
Your professors are active Anthropologist, speak to them about your interest and get feedback of their personal experience in the field.
Research the field at the American Anthropological Association Website.

In fact, you have a better chance having cultural anthropology as a background. I opens your mind and broaden your communication skills as well equipping you with the understanding cultural relativity. Being an anthropologist makes you an open-ended human resource because, you have already erased human communications barriers which is one of the major characteristics of human requirements.
With anthropology, you can fit into academics, research, NGOs, Politics, community and organizational broker. There are couple of anthropological associations online that you can source information from.
