Hey Josh!
Embarking on your accounting journey is an exciting adventure, and colleges offer different pathways to help you succeed:
Selective Programs: At some colleges, you'll get the chance to apply to their esteemed accounting programs. You'll start by completing a few prerequisite courses. These programs often have limited spots, so they look for students with strong grades and relevant experiences. If your college requires an application, visiting the business department's admin office will give you valuable insights into the process and help you prepare your application.
Open Admission Programs: Many colleges welcome all students to pursue an accounting degree without a separate application. This means you can jump right into introductory accounting classes as you begin your studies.
No matter which path you take, you'll have access to dedicated accounting advisors who are eager to help you map out your course schedule and achieve your graduation goals.
Wishing you all the best as you dive into the world of accounting!

Hi Josh, navigating the start of your college career will be an exciting and important time. Accounting, like any other major, requires a certain amount of dedication and discipline. The most important thing you can do to get yourself going on the right track is to get a schedule or routine that works for you. Whether this means actually writing down a schedule of classes and set study time, along with time for friends and other fun experiences college has to offer. Whatever helps you get a feel for how much time you personally need for studying and homework. Once you get the routine down, then you can start adding in the extra curricular things that are just as important as your school work. Good luck!

Hi Josh,
I received my degrees in both accounting and finance and will admit that my accounting degree required more of my time and effort while in college. Studying for an accounting degree was described to me as similar to getting a law degree (I actually had a law professor who taught my tax course) since many of the accounting and tax rules are made by different laws and regulations made by the government. With that said, it will require a decent amount of time studying and memorizing different scenarios and situations ("if this happens, what is the accounting that needs to be recognized"). This will require balancing the social and academic aspects of college and setting aside time to complete homework and study for exams but is very doable if you set aside the time.
Receiving a degree in an accounting is well worth it since it is a specialized field that many companies and firms are looking for (which there is an ever-growing shortage of accounting professions which is a great opportunity for someone studying accounting today).
All the best,
Jake
