Kathleen’s Answer

Greetings! There are so many positives in Healthcare, I can't begin to list them all. I worked in laboratory medicine and since nearly every diagnosis and treatment decision is based on a lab result, that is a great thing to know! It drives the staff to always do their best. Patients can be frightened, and typically the lab staff is one of the first and most frequent contacts, so giving them encouragement and kindness is crucial and as you see them becoming more calm, and even welcoming you, it's a great feeling. Just knowing that you are a valued member of the team is very rewarding. Patients and family members often come by just to say hi or thanks, and may bring treats!

Positives:
1. If you are a people person, you get to deal with people all the time so you don't feel lonely. This is good and bad.
2. You probably don't need to worry about job security. You should probably always have a job.
3. Although the respect is decreasing, in general, there is still a lot of respect for physicians.
4. Usually, you get a lot of free lunches and dinners. Honestly after a while, your time is not worth the free dinners because you just want to go home.
5. When you need medical care, you have the connections to get you in earlier instead of waiting like most of the public.
6. If you get samples of medication, you can take some for yourself.
7. Like any field, there are creative ways to make money on the side or just stop seeing patients and work in clinical research.
