Esther’s Answer

Well nursing is not hard if you have the passion to take care of people.it may be hard if you don't enjoy taking care of the sick, or seeing blood and and rest. You need to think and outline your passion

Esther recommends the following next steps:

Try to review your interest in life.

Gina’s Answer

Asking what is the hardest part of nursing is a tough question to answer because it is different for everyone. For some people it is having to complete personal cares on another human being and realizing our own vulnerabilities. For others it is the scheduling of shifts which can mean weekends, nights, holidays away from family and friends. I had a nursing student whose hardest part was the sight of blood. She would almost faint every time. Sometimes the hardest part can be the environment that you are working in such as working with people who may be compassionate toward a patient but not their coworker. If a person can identify the items that would make nursing feel like a job versus a passion or career path for them, then it may been easier to steer clear of those fields or environments. For my former student, it just took time for her to understand the importance and function of blood to erase the childhood fear she had.

Advice for entering the field of nursing - I would say to always be kind and compassionate. People don't typically come to work or nursing school with the intent to do a bad job. Most people want to do a good job they just don't have the tools or skill set to accomplish their goal. Assume positive intent. Another bit of advice would be to keep your possibilities open. Just because everyone else is taking a typical nursing job doesn't mean it is the right path for you.
