Thank you comment icon Hi Chandler, I think this could be a helpful resource but it can be made even more helpful if you shared some more information about it. For example, how should a learner go about reading the chart and what are some practical applications for it? This can help the learner better understand how to use this and why it might be helpful to them! Gurpreet Lally, Admin

Orville, it's awesome you already have an idea of what you want to do in life.

If you want to design video games then do it! There are plenty of online resources on YouTube that you can take advantage of.

Download Unreal and just start designing.

If you design a game that people love your career path will be making your own video games... which sounds pretty awesome to me :)

You could work for a company at some point designing as well... but at your age, I would go ahead and try to do something that's all yours!

Good luck!

Tomas’s Answer

To answer your question directly, look into Level Design, Project Management, and Game Design.

-Project Management will help you get used to keeping a “pipeline” in mind when you design or brainstorm game ideas. A wonderful skill for working in a team and even to keep yourself organized and on track. Resources can be found for free on YouTube.

-Level Design was the point of interest that launched my career, and passion for game design. It’s strictly the physical design of the playable area the player will be experiencing. There are many resources on YouTube, look up ones by developers and even indie game designers.

-Game Design is how the game functions, from the code to the rules.
You will peice together the rules and function of the game, and work through as much if not all the possibilities that could break your game or avoid situations that players will run into in the game. This is a very collaborative process as well. Resources can be found on YouTube for free as well.

Best of luck to you, and be open to other fields you may discover while learning. Make sure you enjoy what you’re doing.
