How difficult is it for recent graduates of a college or a job training program to get hired for Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in the Sacramento region?
I would like to know if it is also competitive and if it is impacted.

The ease or difficulty for anyone in any career boils down to how one performs during a job interview. Experience and the proper Degree or Credential qualify a person in their field of work. Although no one knows an iron clad answer to your questions, with some information, it may be easier to decide whether or not you'd want to pursue Sonography.
It also seems that you are trying to decide to attend College or Vocational School for sonography. That decision would be up to you. Do you like school ? Are you passionate about being in the medical field and want to be around an atmosphere that will bring you towards opportunities, a network of contacts and possible experience through lab work and internships ? Then I would advise going to college for a Bachelors Degree as it would be stronger than a Certificate from a vocational school and put you in the forefront when applying for jobs. If you do not care much for studying or being a student I would say to go to a vocational school which is shorter in duration and does not have an academia feel.
To get an idea of the opportunities for sonographers in Sacramento, you'd have to research the number of providers that use sonographers. For starters, there re 21 hospitals in Sacramento. You would then have to find out how many doctors offices do sonography and I think there are like 2 imaging places in Sacramento. But do not stop there - there are Fair Oaks, Carmichael, West Sacramento, Citrus Heights, Folsom, Davis and many other towns very close to Sacramento that potentially have opportunities.
