Congratulations on wanting to participate and even have a career in the arts. Social media is a great tool to reach the masses but it takes a lot of hours and dedication plus editing to put those videos out there. A dancer may practice and repeat one move for hours or days until they get it right to perform and post for those 30 seconds. I would recommend you do your homework and if you want to become a dancer search for dance classes that interest you whether it is ballet, hip hop, tango, ballroom, jazz, folk, or swing, the options are limitless, and choose something you like and make yourself stand out. Also if you are passionate about dancing, some schools offer specific classes for the arts one example would be Julliard. I would encourage you to look at the longevity of what you love to do and write it down with paper and pencil because social media, although entertaining to view new trends, does not last long, if you want to be a dancer, seek where you can take classes of dance even speak to an occupational counselor at your school.

Hello, Tonisiah !
Your first step if you want to be a dancer is to try it through classes and see how it goes. Also audition for a show or musical at your school. If you specifically only want to dance for social media, that would be a good hobby, but not a career. Dancers are trained professionals and social media is a medium on which people can view performances. It does not describe a dancer.
Along the way, since you already are focused on social media, you might want to decide between a career as a Dancer or a career as a Social Media Professional. The careers you can have in Social Media for a company are: Brand Ambassador, Community Manager, Digital Marketer, Engagement Coordinator, Interactive Media Manager, Social Media Analyst, Social Media Associate, Social Media Content Manager, Social Media Designer, and Social Media Strategist.
As a dancer you can naturally record yourself dancing and post it to a social media platform, but that will not lead to a career as a dancer. It takes many years of training, auditioning for shows and it's very demanding physically and even emotionally as it is very precise and competitive. I advise giving it some time and if it's just that you like social media, you can explore some fine careers that will have you involved in an interesting career that you'd enjoy. In the meantime, you can record and post any content, dancing or otherwise, to social media, but I do not want to steer you wrong by saying you can make a living from it.
So it seems like you need to makes some decisions. Are you willing to train to do dance performances with a troupe, on stage live, for television and film ? By getting some dance experience, you will be able to gauge just where you need to be.
Training as a dancer is quite expensive and so is getting a college degree to work as a Social Media professional, so there really is no free way to prepare for careers. You don't know what your situation will be like by the time you are ready for education and training. There are always scholarships and Financial Aid for students. Take it slow for now and set doable goals. There's plenty of time to explore your interests.

Good Day Tonisiah!
How to Become a Social Media Dancer in a Cost-Effective Way
1. Define Your Dance Style and Goals
Before diving into the world of social media dancing, it’s crucial to identify what type of dance you want to pursue. Styles can range from hip-hop, ballet, contemporary, jazz, or even cultural dances. Understanding your preferred style will help you focus your training and content creation efforts. Additionally, set clear goals for yourself—whether it’s to gain followers, participate in challenges, or collaborate with other dancers.
2. Utilize Free Online Resources
There are numerous free resources available online that can help you learn dance without incurring costs. Platforms like YouTube offer countless tutorials across various dance styles. Channels such as “Dance Tutorials Live” and “Matt Steffanina” provide step-by-step instructions for beginners. Websites like Just Dance also offer free dance workouts that can help improve your skills while keeping it fun.
3. Practice Regularly at Home
Creating a dedicated space at home for practice is essential. You don’t need an expensive studio; just a clear area where you can move freely will suffice. Set aside time each day or week to practice consistently. This helps build muscle memory and improves your technique over time.
4. Leverage Social Media Platforms
Choose platforms that align with your goals—TikTok and Instagram are particularly popular for dancers due to their visual nature and engagement potential. Start by creating an account dedicated to your dance journey where you can post videos of your practice sessions, challenges, or performances.
5. Engage with the Community
Follow other dancers on social media and engage with their content by liking, commenting, and sharing. This not only helps you learn but also builds connections within the community. Participating in trending challenges or duets can increase visibility for your profile.
6. Collaborate with Other Dancers
Once you’ve established a presence on social media, consider collaborating with other dancers—this could be through joint videos or participating in group challenges. Collaborations often lead to cross-promotion between accounts which can help grow your audience.
7. Invest in Basic Equipment Gradually
While starting out cost-effectively is important, there may come a time when investing in basic equipment becomes necessary for quality content creation (e.g., a smartphone tripod or ring light). Begin with what you have and upgrade as needed based on the feedback from your audience.
8. Stay Consistent and Authentic
Consistency is key in building an audience on social media; aim to post regularly while maintaining authenticity in your content. Share not just polished performances but also behind-the-scenes footage of your practice sessions or personal stories related to your dance journey.
By following these steps diligently and creatively engaging with the social media landscape, you can become a successful social media dancer without incurring significant costs.
