Hi Sonia,
There are many paths to becoming a nurse as well as different levels of nursing professionals. All can work in an emergency room or become a traveling nurse. A registered nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who practices nursing. To become an RN, you will need to earn a diploma, an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). There are many excellent nursing schools in every state of the US. I see that you are located in Phoenix, AZ, and that may be a good place for you to start looking. Arizona State University and Arizona College of Nursing are two schools in Phoenix that offer nursing majors. Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona also offer nursing programs but are located outside of Phoenix.
You can also consider earning your LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing) Certificate, which is typically completed in 12-18 months at a community or technical college. LPNs provide basic nursing care under the supervision of an RN or physician. During your education, you will have opportunities to perform rotations in different settings that will allow you to gain hands-on experience and training under the supervision of experienced nurses. LPNs can become an RN by enrolling in an LPN to RN program, and you may be able to get an employer to pay for this advanced training.
Nursing is a growing field with a higher projected growth rate than other occupations. Nurses also often have competitive salaries and benefits, and they can work part-time or full-time. Good luck to you!
