Hello Luke: The kind of attitude an employer is looking for is one that is professional while being natural, not robotic. In an interview they are looking to see if you're relatable, easy to converse with with a healthy sense of humor (not too jovial not too stiff necked). I used to tell my students, "someone that the team can imagine going to lunch with." Work groups might go to lunch together for birthdays, welcoming new employee, birth of child celebrations, for example. In addition, they are looking for someone that looks like the position. For instance, suit and tie for most office jobs, or polo and khaki's for more labor intensive job interviews. Also, employers are looking for an even temprement, someone not easily angered ore excitable. So if they are required to provide customer service, they can maintain a calm demeanor with customers and co-workers. Yes, as previously mentioned positivity is crucial, negative attitudes in a workplace where people are for 40 hrs a week can create a toxic environment for others around you. If you work in a place that you enjoy doing the work, more than likely you'll have a lot in common with your co-workers. Best wishes for a successful search!

Maura’s Answer

Hi Luke,

I agree with Mike. A positive attitude goes a long way. When hiring people, I looked for people who came to an interview well prepared. They knew as much information as they could about the job. They were prepared to communicate why they were interested and why they thought they would do well. Demonstrating a positive, collaborative, hardworking, inquisitive attitude was important. But be genuine. You will want to be prepared to give a possible employer evidence of your true attitude. You can do this by providing examples and sharing what others have said about you.

Good luck! I hope this is helpful.

Michael’s Answer

Hi Luke,

Attitude is everything when interviewing with a company. Company's want to see a willingness to work hard, learn, and bring positive energy to their environment. Showing that you know what the role is all about, inside and out, and what the company does and is looking for, your attitude to show through. This is overall a short answer but when interviewing, it is imperative you are open, honest, excited, inquisitive and portray a willingness to work hard.

Thanks!

Mike
