How do I put my voice in an essay?

I write so many essays, specifically for scholarships, but I feel like they're all redundant and cheesy, how do I add my voice to an essay?

Sheila’s Answer

Hi Hanan: I suggest that you tailor each essay and include personal experiences. This could entail life experiences, volunteerism, travel, etc. You want to make sure that you are authentic and not stating something that is not true.

The bottom line is to be honest in your response but make it personal to your experiences. Remember to include athletics, clubs, volunteerism, work, etc. There's a wide range of things you could discuss but, make sure it is "true" for you. Don't forget to include any travel abroad such as a mission trip.

I wish you well in writing your essays. You can do this. :)

Best of Luck to You!

Sheila recommends the following next steps:

Write about Personal Experiences and be authentic
Some areas you could discuss in your essay are - - a) athletics b) clubs c) volunteerism / community service d) part-time job (work) e) travel
