Sherry’s Answer
My husband is a veteran and the sacrifice is great but the benefits are great. You have access to a GI bill which pays for you to go to a full ride in college, as well as if you dont use it than you can pass it on to your spouse and you have so many years outside of discharge to use the bill. Medically if disabled by the military you are covered and paid by the VA monthly based on your disability or injury. Do alot of research on what branch and what you want to do . There are many careers when you get out based on what branch you served in that you can make really good money.

You will gain skills that will follow your entire life and career as a professional. Not only that, you also gain access to the Post 911 Bill which is paid tuition and a monthly housing allowance. This tuition will cover all your undergrad program if you stay consistent. You also gain access to the VA Home Loan, and that by itself is worth gold. You can purchase a home with no down payment, no PMI insurance, and the lowest interest rate the market will allow you.
Carla’s Answer
The benefits can be beneficial from a variety of view points. The biggest benefits I received in the 10 years I served was discipline and independence. I joined at 18 and was stationed in Europe. That forced me to "grow up" and mature at a rapid pace because I no longer had the familiarity and comforts of home. I had to learn how to manage a budget and work around a grueling schedule of full time soldier duties while attending college full time. I had to stay focused and remain goal oriented. The military helped me to experience life on a global scale and opened my mind to all sorts of responsibilities and opportunities I know I would not have had if I didn't join.
