The three retail stores for fabrics are Micheals-Walmart-Joann. They have a variety of fabrics and you can experience in-person. Learn about fabrics and their names.
You can look at Amazon but you have to do some shopping from retail stores to get used to name and type of fabrics.
You can look at eBay and Etsy as well. When buying online specially eBay or Etsy make sure you know what you are buying since the return process is very long and sometimes no-return.
I heard there are designer workshops that sell their fabrics but never went myself.
