I happen to be a current nurse and an Army veteran so let's take nursing and the military as an example; she could enlist and likely have Uncle Sam pay her way through nursing school. Another option is to go to nursing school first, then sign up for her military branch of choice already having her nursing degree and likely enter in at a much higher rank (also making more money starting off!). Each branch does this differently, so she would need to speak to different recruiters about what that would look like for her.
If she's still in high school and decides the civilian life is what she'd prefer, she can talk to her school counselor about those smaller scholarships that lots of students leave on the table. $200 here and $500 there adds up!
A critical note about a nursing degree; it gives you countless career options! You can work for the Red Cross, work in manufacturing, work with the elderly, with babies (as you indicated in your question), work at a middle school, do private home health care, the options are endless! As a current nurse, I can tell you that she won't be at a huge disadvantage for going to a state school vs some fancy private nursing school when it comes time to get a job. She would of course want to pick the best option available, but she shouldn't stress too bad because no matter what school she goes to, we all take the same test at the end (that'd be the dreaded NCLEX).

Oh, Cheeky, this is a real-life plot twist—your sister wants to save lives, but her own wallet is on life support!
First, remind her that even superheroes need backup. Scholarships, grants, and financial aid exist for a reason (because let’s be real, med school costs more than a spaceship). She should start researching and applying—hey, free money is the best kind of money!
Second, tell her that the medical field has many routes! She can start with something like nursing, paramedics, or even medical assisting—faster, cheaper, and still life-saving. It’s like taking a shortcut to being a hero.
And lastly, let her know that determination beats dollars. Many doctors started from nothing, but they hustled their way up. If she’s really meant to wear that white coat, trust me, she’ll find a way—even if it means selling a kidney (kidding… mostly).
Be her cheerleader, help her plan, and remind her that the world needs more lifesavers… even the broke ones!
And maybe she doesn't need saving maybe she knows her passion burns inside and she is willing to pursue it despite all the hardships. You wont expect the outcomes just start a conversation you will get it! Good luck sidekick!
