I've learned that nurses never stop learning. Once you do get the nursing degree and begin working, there is still an expectation that you maintain your license with Continuing Education courses, based on your area of specialty. Many of the courses are available online and many are held at conferences. The idea that that as the medical industry changes, nurses will be required to be educated and aware of applicable laws, technology and changes. Much success to you in your endeavors!

Hi Kassidy,
As a nurse, I would caution you that bedside nursing is extremely challenging. Patients are getting sicker, staffing always seems to be short, and you can become very task-oriented and experience compassion fatigue. However, one of the great things about nursing are the many areas that you can pursue. While some people love bedside, and that’s what most people think of when you say “nurse”, there are also nurses who work for the government, in public health, research, and many other areas. So I would say to do your research, as many people romanticize what a nurse is.

Nursing is a fantastic career with great job opportunities. You can work in the hospital with critically ill patients or on the wards with less sick patients or in the operating room. If you want less stress and more long term relationships with patients, you can work in a private clinic. Nurses often go into hospital administration if they have an interest in business or management. The options are numerous!
