Brittany’s Answer

Hello Lilly,
I would check with your local animal shelters, foster homes, and post on social media if you have a local page. This way if you decide to go into a career field working with animals after school you would be able to put all your volunteer work on you resume. My sone who is 9 volunteers at the local animal shelter, they allow him to help clean kennels, walk dogs and feed them. A lot of times they will also allow him to play fetch and just run with them to get them exercise.

Brittany recommends the following next steps:

Reach out to local animal shelters and see if they are looking for voluteers.
Reach out to your community and see if anyone needs assistance walking, feeding or exercising their pets.
Reach out to pet shops in the area and see if they allow volunteers to assist in the stores.

Hey Lilly!

It’s awesome that you want to volunteer with animals especially when you are just 13, you’ve got some cool options which are:

Animal Shelters & Rescues
Many local shelters love having volunteers to walk dogs, play with cats, or help clean. Plus, cuddling puppies? Best job ever.

2. Pet Sitting
Offer to help neighbors or family with their pets when they’re busy. You could be the official neighborhood "Pet Whisperer!"

Foster Programs
Some animal rescue groups need volunteers to help with foster animals—think of it like a pet sleepover (minus the mess)! 👀👀

Pet Stores
Ask if your local pet shop needs help feeding small animals or cleaning tanks (bonus: you get to hang out with adorable creatures).

Community Events
Look for pet adoption days or fundraisers—they always need volunteers for fun stuff like setting up, handing out treats, or helping animals strut their stuff.

You can always ask your parents to help you contact local shelters or check websites like VolunteerMatch to find opportunities near you! Many youngsters use it to get those little opportunities so can you, I have also checked it out and even did give it a shot, there is plenty of ways to volunteer and assist in different areas. I am sure you will find your volunteering gig there too.

Remember no matter what you choose, you’re making tails wag—and that’s pretty pawsome!
