Simon’s Answer

There are two areas of mechanics. He first is designing and applying machines and the other is installing and/or repairing machines. To make $100,000 you will have to a higher level mechanical engineer with responsibilities that include managing many or people. A mechanical engineering degree requires 4 years of college. A specialist heavy machinery mechanic can make a salary close to $100,000 after intensive training, which could be 1-4 years at a technical/trade school, many years of practice and some demanding hours. Good luck.

Simon recommends the following next steps:

Investigate trade schools and their requirements
Talk to a mechanic in the area you are interested in.
If you want to be a mechanical engineer, contact a local college with a engineering program and talk to a counselor.
