What is the difference between art school, College, and Community college?

I'm a ninth grader trying to make my future more clear, and I'm aiming for art school but I'm not sure what all the differences are. #college #art-college

Hi,
Good question, I would suggest talking to your school counselor about this as well but for now I will give you some basic information.
ART SCHOOLS (sometimes called trade or technical) are typically private schools where you are taught more specific areas of study related to art...you may not have to take a lot of math, english or basic courses in these schools. These schools may cost a little more since they are private.
COMMUNITY (sometimes called Junior colleges) COLLEGES are public schools run by the city, county or state. They typically cost a little less since they are public and to get certificate or degree, you have to finish the required courses that may include math/science/history/english, etc.
COLLEGES (sometimes called Universities) are typically 4 or more years of study to get your degree. These colleges can be private or public and you also have a requirement to finish all courses in the degree plan.

Hope this helps...good luck!

Hi Daria,

Just to add to the previous response I would say that art schools will give you more specialized majors. While many colleges and universities will have art degree programs with allowances for some specialization, you will not necessarily have access to specific art disciplines like fashion, film, industrial design, graphic design, digital arts, etc. that would be available at most private art schools.

Instead you will have a general art or fine art program or an art history curriculum. Of course this is a generality and there are colleges and universities that have expanded to include such specialization. You should check with the schools with which you are interested in applying.
