Richard’s Answer

Treat school like a job. Get up early, get to work and when your work is done at the end of the day, you can spend time on social life or organizations.

Go to class. Plan to spend 2-3 hours studying for every hour of lecture. Attend your professor's office hours and any TA review sessions. If there is a test bank, use that as a study tool to understand what your professor wants you to focus on for the test.

Plan to take 12\-15 hours per semester. You should start college planning to study every day. Attend your classes. Do the homework. When you find a class difficult, attend office hours early in the semester. If you continue to struggle, get a tutor.

Michael’s Answer

Hi Sam,

It's all about personal preference, your current schedule and how you manage time. I personally am more of a night owl than a morning person, so I would schedule my classes late morning to the evening. I also had to balance this out with an on-campus job which I would recommend because they will be flexible with your course schedule. Also, do not bite off more than you can chew as far as # of classes taken per semester. I had peers who attempted to take 5 classes per semester and they got burned out pretty quickly. Although, there were some who did that flourished. It's really a matter of personal preference here. I would suggest starting off with 4 classes your first semester, see what time of day works for you, if you have to work, etc. Then, proceed on what worked best for you.

Thanks!

Mike
