Job’s Answer

I agree with Rafael's answer. Go to legal non profits and respectfully ask for an unpaid position making sure you tell them about your advance classes in law and your desire to help them in their cause. State that their cause is of great importance to you and you are a quick learner. Let them know you are willing to start with trivial jobs and you want to learn how to be of value to them. Over time you will receive more important assignments as long as you are successfully completing your last assignment. Once in law school join the law clinic and you will gain experience in research, drafting causes of action, and get court time if you stick to it.
Good luck

Rafael’s Answer

Hi Jerome,

To land an internship at a law firm with an advanced diploma in law but no prior experience, you please need to be proactive. First, start by volunteering at legal settings like non-profits or legal aid societies to gain practical experience. Take into account to network with professors, alumni, and legal professionals, and attend career fairs and seminars to make connections. Update your resume and cover letter to highlight your diploma, relevant coursework, and transferable skills like research, writing, and communication. Do not forget to regularly check job portals and legal firm websites for openings, and consider part-time or temporary positions to gain exposure. From my experience, further education or certifications can also boost your credentials. To summarize, combining volunteer work, networking, and tailored applications will improve your chances of securing an internship. Good luck!
