Hi Brecken,

Great question! There are a number of ways to attract a company's attention. First, I would call their HR and Recruitment team and introduce yourself, ask if there are any openings, and follow up with an email containing a Cover Letter detailing why you would like to work there as well as your resume`. Follow up periodically to determine your status with them, if they are anticipating openings and ask what you need to do to be employed there. I agree with the prior person that if you can get a referral in there, that is an ideal way to go.

I hope this helps!

Best,

Mike

Great question, most people don't put much thought into this and hope that just sending in a resume will get them noticed. The truth is, being a referral from someone else or at least having the recruiter put a face with the name will give you a much better chance.

While there are a number of ways to approach a company for a job, the best way is going to be through your network. Talk to people, search your network and find out who you know that works there, and if it turns out a friend of a friend works there, then ask your common friend for an introduction, most people are happy to help others find a job. If you don't have any connections working there, try to go to an event/talk/meetup that the company is hosting or possibly visit a booth at a career fair/conference/etc.

Mike recommends the following next steps:

Create a target list of companies that you're interested in and start networking.
When you meet someone at your target company, do your research and be ready to speak intelligently about their company and products, it will show them how serious you are about their company.
Practice your "elevator pitch" so you can give a brief description of yourself and why you would be a good fit for the company and the role you want.
Stay positive! Job hunting is a full-time job in itself and interviewing is a skill that will improve with practice.
