I would say, write out all of the activities that you WANT to do and all of the activities you NEED to do. Balance out the things you need to do versus the activities you want to do. For the activities that you need to do, you should write down how much time and effort that it will take for you to successfully accomplish these activities (if you dont know, estimate). Then, depending on how much free time you have, try to see how much time the activities you WANT to do might take.

For example, if you are doing a full schedule of difficult classes and you will probably need to take a lot of time to study, do homework, and prepare for tests, that should take priority over everything else. But then you might not have time to do many of the activities you want to do such as marching band. However, if you dont have a lot of problems with the material and you can handle the work load, then you can have more time to do other activities as long as it doesnt affect your grades as much.

Hope that helps!

I strongly suggest joining the marching band to meet other students who share your interests and to have a great time.

For high school students wanting to join the marching band while managing a busy schedule, here are some tips:

* Time Management: Make a detailed plan that includes class time, homework, band practice, performances, and personal time. Follow it closely.
* Prioritize Tasks: Focus on the most important school and band tasks first. Avoid delaying assignments or practice.
* Communicate with Teachers: Inform your teachers about your involvement in the marching band and request flexibility with deadlines during busy performance times.
* Utilize Study Time Wisely: Use study halls, free periods, and short breaks to study. Every bit counts.
* Seek Help When Needed: If you're having trouble with a subject, ask teachers, tutors, or classmates for help.
* Take Advantage of Weekends: Use weekends to catch up or get ahead with schoolwork, but also schedule time for fun and relaxation.
* Stay Organized: Keep both your school and band materials organized to save time and reduce stress.
* Get Enough Sleep: Aim for 8-9 hours of sleep each night to stay alert and focused.
* Stay Healthy: Eat well and exercise regularly to keep your body and mind strong.
* Balance: Maintain a balance between school, band, and personal life. Don’t let one area take over all your time and energy.

Eric Scott’s Answer

A wise friend once told me, "If you want something done well, ask a busy person." If you love being in the band, go for it! We only get one life on this Earth. You can either regret not trying, or you can dive in and proudly say you gave it a shot. If it ever feels overwhelming, you can always pause, but if you never try, you'll never know the amazing things that could happen.

Take a breather in between each class and activity.
