so I was looking at community colleges here in Ga (newnan,GA) and I cant decide one which is best for me. Does anyone have any advice that could help me decide? I want to plan everything out before junior year so if possible, I can graduate earlier and also already be prepared for college( I do somewhat understand early graduation as my sister did it last year) but If anyone knows any good community colleges please, can you help me understand?

I'm looking into community colleges now, as i've decided which university Id like to go to.

Hi Zoey! It's great that you know which University you want to attend and that you'll complete your Associate's Degree at a Community College before transferring to the University. That will save you a lot of money in the long run. I'd suggest you start by reaching out to an Academic Advisor at the University to discuss:
1. Which Major you're interested in completing
2. What type of course schedule they have (e.g., Quarter-based, Trimester-based, or Semester-based. This will be important as you need to make sure the Community College and the University have the same course schedule to easily transfer your credits.)
3. If they have any transfer programs established with Community Colleges local to you that they can recommend (and how they work, if they do)
4. If they have specific coursework or an Associate's Degree program you need to take through the local Community College(s) to set you on the path toward your preferred Major at that University

If the University you're planning to attend has collaborative transfer programs with local Community Colleges, that is often an easier and safer approach to ensure you're set up for success in achieving your end goal. Hope that helps!

Hi Zoey,

Think about a few key things to make sure it fits your plan to graduate early and prep for university. Check out colleges with solid transfer deals so your credits carry over smoothly. I recommend visiting campuses to see where you would feel at home. Also, look into support services like tutoring and advising to keep you on track. Maybe smaller classes can mean more attention, and flexible schedules are a win if you are juggling high school too. Honors programs could spice up your studies for sure. It is important not to forget to compare tuition and financial aid options. I highly advise talking with current students or alumni that can give you real experience. For instance, I see that West Georgia Technical College is a popular pick nearby, known for setting students up for success whether heading straight into a career or onto university. Hope this helps!

Hello Zoey,

There are 4 points you should consider in your decision and use to rank each college.
1. Does it carry your major?
2. Does it have a special agreement with the university you want to transfer to? You may be able to find this on the school's website or from an advisor.
3. Is it your "local" community college? If you live "in district" then you will get a lower price for tuition than at a farther community college where you are considered an "out of district" student. This is usually determined by county and what local taxes you pay.
4. How much will each college cost? Does one college offer a scholarship that another does not?

Good luck with your choice!

Hi, Zoey !

Just to repeat what you've said, you know which four year college you will go to but are looking at community colleges. I assume that means that you will go for your Associates Degree and then enroll at a University (which you didn't name) for your Bachelors Degree. You also seem to be saying that graduating early will allow you to enter college early ?

To begin with, the advisors and myself are not necessarily familiar with your town of Newnan so I know I don't "know" what college is good for you as well, no one knows you so it'd be hard to say which would be good for you. You'd have to read their websites and go for orientations at the colleges to see which one you like. No one can choose that for you but you sure can !

First, let's discuss early graduation from high school. I graduated early many decades ago and it may work differently currently, however, you will need your high school diploma and transcripts in order to enroll in college. Back in the day the way it worked was you were selected for early graduation because you had enough credits to fulfill the graduation requirement set by that particular high school. You asked your parents if they thought it was okay to do, they said yes and then you met with your guidance counselor who did all the paperwork and arranged it. I had off all of 12th grade and then participated in the graduation commencement ceremony and was handed my diploma at that time in June of the year I was supposed to graduate. So I received my diploma at the normal time with the rest of the graduating class, not early. Currently, if you want to graduate early, take the initiative and meet with your guidance counselor in the mid point of your Junior year. They will be able to figure out if you could skip 12th grade. Ask if your school would give you your diploma then or must you wait till May or June when the school year ends. This can be something you need to find out about before anything else. You'll need the diploma to enter college.

It is great that your plans include attending a local community college because many universities that are close by the community college have guaranteed transfer. This will be another thing to look into. Call your University of choice and ask what community colleges they have a guaranteed transfer partnership with. That means all of the community colleges' courses transfer over and satisfy the equivalent of the University's lower division courses. You'll want to choose a CC that aligns with the University's transfer policy.

The best effective way to determine which community college is best for you is to focus on your chosen career interest and align it with what you'll need to major in. Once you've aligned the subject, look at all the near by community colleges' websites for that program. See which program you like the best. In addition (they may all have the major you want), read more about each college and then go to You Tube to see if they have a Channel there. Watch the presentational videos which talk about the college and show the campus. Then arrange to attend an orientation to tour the campuses. This is how you will be able to decide which community college to attend. You can do it !

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best in all you do !
