Can I work as a clinical pharmacy specialist and work for industry simultaneously? Am I being delusional??

Thinking Above and Beyond!

I am a first-year pharmacy student who aspire to become clinical specialist. For context, I working in a hospital as a pharmacy intern. For now, I am interested in internal medicine, ambulatory care, and oncology. Between all three, oncology piques my interest the most.
While being a clinical specialist is my goal, I was also wondering if I can also integrate myself in the industry world during or after practicing clinically; specifically in medical affairs. I would love some feedback or insight from any pharmacists within these roles, suggestions/ advice, or with some experience. Thank you for your time.

Dianna’s Answer

It’s possible, but both positions would have to be part time. You would have to let both jobs know what days you are available to work so they don’t overlap and you can still get sleep. Just know that it will be exhausting to work 2 or more positions. I know people who work 5 jobs and a few of them have been hospitalized for overworking themselves. Just make sure you put yourself and health first before anything.
Thank you comment icon Thank you, Dianna! I kind of guessed I will have to work part-time or PRN for this to work. I guess I have a lot to consider. I am still early in my program so I will keep an open-mind and heed your advice. Susannah
Thank you comment icon You’re welcome. I know it’s a lot but just know it is possible. Some locations might be able to help accommodate you more than others. It’s a hit or miss situation for each company. I would recommend learning as much as you can for the companies you might be interested in working and see how they would be willing to help you.
