Michigan is a great state, but it depends on what type of Engineer you want to be.
You first need to do some research on the field of Engineering, because there is a lot of choices to pick from.

Hello Laura. Two ways to answer your question: 1) the geographical state, or 2) your mental state. #1 is easy- you live in a state with excellent state University system. Do a year or two at community college - then perhaps transfer to a nearby state univ. To complete your degree pursuit.
#2 Your mental state - be willing to learn, ask questions, gain as much knowledge as you can. This might be even more important than what college you attend. Good luck to you, Laura!

Dear Laura,
Many community universities in USA offer 2 year Associate Degree courses in engineering. They are typically a stepping stone for four-year degree courses in engineering.
An associate degree is an excellent opportunity for students to test the waters & see if they are truly interested in the engineering discipline they are persuing.
California & Texas states stand out with regards to the number of community universities that offer engineering courses. Since you reside in California, you could check out the following: Santa Monica college, Long Beach City College & Pasadena City College. These are just a few examples of a longer list. I hope this is a good starting point for your search.
