What does your keyword optimizing process look like?
I am a sophmore in college studying business marketing and am helping a small business owner with improving their sales on Pinterest and other social media platforms. From my research I have learned that keywords are crucial to bringing traffic to your site but it seems that everyone has a different optimizing process.

Olivia, Sounds like you've gotten some great advice on SEO and the importance of keywords and page rankings. I would also recommend you become familiar with GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) which is the process of optimizing your website to show in organic results generated from large language models (LLM’s).

- 60% of searches in 2024 were zero click searches
This illustrates a shift in behavior to focus on the AI summaries.
Current trends since Some key best practices that have been proven to increase visibility on AI platforms:

Multimodal content is important - Short-form video in particular works well
Write content in a natural language – this well help support natural language queries

Hi Olivia. You've received some great advice already. Also, remember that algorithms focus on how relevant content is. For example, Google is more useful when it shows content users really like. It tracks users after they click on a search result. If two users choose different sites, Google checks which site better meets their needs. It looks at how long users stay and if they explore the site. If user one visits site A and leaves in 10 seconds, but user two visits site B, stays longer, and clicks more pages, Google sees site B as more relevant and ranks it higher. When designing your site, aim to land users in the right place and keep them engaged.
Good luck!

Olivia,
Keyword optimization is the process of researching, analyzing, and strategically using keywords to improve a website’s visibility in search engine results. Here’s how it works:
1. Keyword Research - Identify primary keywords related to your business, products, or services. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or SEMrush to find high-volume, low-competition keywords. Consider long-tail keywords (specific phrases) to target niche audiences. Analyze competitor keywords to see what’s working for them.
2. Keyword Selection - Choose a mix of short-tail keywords (broad terms) and long-tail keywords (specific phrases).
Focus on search intent: Informational (e.g., "how to start a business in Iowa") Navigational (e.g., "Iowa business registration website") Transactional (e.g., "register LLC in Iowa online")
3. On-Page Optimization - Title Tags: Include your main keyword in the page title. Meta Descriptions: Use keywords naturally in the description for better click-through rates. Headings (H1, H2, H3): Place keywords in headings for better structure. Content Optimization: Use keywords naturally in the text (avoid stuffing). Include variations and synonyms. Ensure high-quality, engaging, and valuable content. URL Structure: Make URLs keyword-rich and concise (e.g., "yourdomain.com/iowa-business-registration"). Alt Text for Images: Optimize images with keyword-rich alt tags.
4. Off-Page Optimization - Backlinks: Earn links from reputable sites using keyword-rich anchor texts. Social Signals: Share content on social media to increase visibility.
5. Technical Optimization - Improve website speed and mobile-friendliness (Google ranks faster, mobile-friendly sites higher). Use structured data markup to help search engines understand content better. Optimize for voice search (using natural language and question-based keywords).
6. Monitoring and Adjusting - Track performance using Google Analytics and Google Search Console. Update and refine keywords based on trends and analytics data. Adjust content to align with evolving search algorithms and user behavior.
Good Luck with your project!
