Jason’s Answer

Thank you for your question. As a Sr Manager in a Fortune 50 organization, I will tell you the needed skills will vary depending on the position someone is interviewing for. However there are basic characteristics that no matter what job someone is seeking should come through in an interview. Those are integrity, honesty, and results driven. That is just to name a few but if someone possesses those as well as the very specific skills the position requires, there is a high probability they will be successful..

Amber’s Answer

While technical skills will vary depending on the position, soft skills (personal skills) are also extremely important and can help navigate success no matter what career path you choose. Often soft skills are what separate an average employee from a great employee, and they have a big impact in the workplace. Creativity, Communication, and Integrity are among the top with Integrity being the most valuable. It only takes 5 minutes to destroy a reputation that took 20 years to build so it is imperative to find employees that have the same fundamental values as the company.

Chad’s Answer

Great question. I look for a knowledge, skills and abilities. These areas can be defined by both behaviors and technical expertise. One must be able to demonstrate the technical knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to meet the requirements of the role but also demonstrate the behaviors (leadership, teamwork, strong interpersonal skills, communication, strategic thinking, etc.) that align with the company values and needs of the particular role.

Chad recommends the following next steps:

Review job sites (Indeed, LinkedIn, Career Builder) to review advice they provide on the top skills employers are looking for
