Does anyone have advice on how to get hired as a dancer for a cruise ship? #Spring2025

I am hoping to have a successful career in the field of dance. One thing I have always found interesting was working on cruise ships as a dance performer. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to find auditions, what to wear, and how to impress anyone running the auditions. I really want to get booked for a job, and was curious if anyone knew any tips to do so? #Spring2025

Hi, Aubrey !

As an actress keeping on top of auditions, I do sometimes see audition notices for cruise ship dancers on the acting casting websites. You can register at Backstage, Actors Access, Direct Submit by New York City Castings, and any of the other casting websites you can find through a search online.

I am not sure what they ask for submission, but my intuition tells me you'd be safe to have a headshot, resume, full body photo, a video of you doing a couple types of dancing (or the notice may request something specific) and that should have you prepared to submit for a dancing role for a cruise line.

In addition, try submitting your materials at various websites that hire. Some of these are: Royal Caribbean Entertainment, Celebrity Cruises Entertainment, Carnival Entertainment, Disney Careers, Princess Cruises Entertainment, and RWS Global. Go to these websites and use the Employment or Careers link to see what may be auditioning.

I'm not a dancer, but I would say to wear whatever it is you wear when you audition for anything else. Body suit and Danskin skirt, something that can show your movements clearly on video, something modest in style, too. Nothing that will take away the attention to your dancing.

Your best bet in trying out would be to submit your materials for as many auditions as possible to increase the possibility of being chosen. Also remember that if you'd be dancing with a troupe, they try to cast not only by talent, but how well people fit the group. You just have to be persistent in sending out your materials. No one ever really knows what the auditor is thinking, so there's no guarantees in this business. Just do a good video, have a few genres of dance routines ready (in case you audition in person), and be yourself !

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !

Hi! It's been a while since I worked on ships, but I worked for two different companies, NCL and Silver Cruises, and both had dancers from Jean Ann Ryan Productions: https://www.jeanannryanproductions.com/

They put on really good shows, and were a great part of the team. I still keep in touch with some of them.

Hi,

You’ll need to look at each of the cruise lines jobs sites to see when & where they are holding auditions. A few cruise lines like virgin voyages will are currently accepting video submissions however their dancers are also host entertainment.

If you go to in person auditions have your headshots/comp cards ready. Black leotard & black leggings or shorts. Have your street dance shoes, character, and jazz shoes with you.

Best of luck at the auditions!
