Hi Corrine:
Roommates can be good and/or hard to live with no matter if they are a friend you had in advance or meet someone new when you arrived at college. There will be an adjustment period no matter what. You've received some very good suggestions so far and I hope you find the link below useful. Best of luck to you.

Try to remember how valuable good relationship skills are for all aspects of your life and try to practice with your roommate. Let me expand. I know a lot of people from college that lived much better with someone that wasn't their best friend. You and your roommate will be more successful if you set some rules for your door room and live by those rules. Decide what's most important: set quiet hours, cleaning schedule, rules about food, laundry days, etc and then develop rules and stick to them. That will prevent lots of arguments. Even if you aren't best friends with your room mate (and having other friends that you don't live with is super important) you will end up respecting each other and still be friends if you are respectful of each other!
