Hello, Meadow !

What an awesome career plan !

You're probably going to learn all about the career in college but two places you can possibly work at are churches and hospitals. I am not sure that hospitals hire this position, it may be volunteer, but some do hire chaplains to serve all religions in hospitals. You can also do online counseling through various secular counseling websites for clients specifically looking for Christian Counseling.

There are times for which clients specifically request a Christian counselor. That is why while you are doing any volunteer work or internship counseling, have business cards made up and hand them out to various clinics and other places. If one of their clients specifically wants it and no other will do, they can refer the client to you.

You also may be hired as a biblical counselor at Christian elementary schools, high schools and universities.

You would first be going for a Bachelors Degree and what is called a "graduate certificate" or a Masters Degree. I would advise the Masters Degree as this degree is generally recognized for counseling professionals. Go to the websites of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors and the American Association of Christian Counselors to research more information about this career.

I hope this helps and I wish you all the best !
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much! I hope to complete an accelerated degree from a BA in Christian Ministry to a Master's in Biblical Counseling at Spurgeon College. However, the tuition is still $18,000 after scholarships, and my family says it is only reasonable to pay less than 10k/yr since I am not career-motivated, but service-motivated. I want to be debt-free out of college. Do you know of any counseling scholarships out there that I can use? Or anyone willing to sponsor a scholarship? Meadow
Thank you comment icon Yes, but put it as a separate question on this site. Service work IS a career and you seem ambitious to have a career to me. The work you're going into is very important - of course it's a Career ! Check for scholarships given by the colleges, too but add a new post on this site. Michelle M.
