Hi Elizabeth, owning a bakery sounds like a fantastic adventure! Majoring in Entrepreneurship could really give you a strong foundation in business ownership and open up great networking opportunities. As an Entrepreneurship major, you'll have chances to enter pitch competitions to secure funding for your bakery and tap into various resources. Some programs even let you start your business while still in school, with support from faculty and staff. I hope this inspires you!

Thank you for your question. I am glad to know that you want to become an entrepreneur.
Below are my suggestions:
1. Take bakery related classes and watch more YouTube videos to learn more baking techniques
2. Practice more. Practice makes perfect! Seek comments from your friends and family
3. Explore any intern opportunities in famous bakery
4. Attend management courses
5. Start business online first if possible
Hope this helps! Good luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Any additional skills you can build while earning your degree, are a good thing! Keep in mind that marketing and business can be a common major at some colleges/universities so you want to find you niche in marketing to help set you apart once you enter the job market. Doing work in areas that you love and have a genuine passion for will show to hiring managers. Good luck!

Steve’s Answer

Congrats Elizabeth on your goal to own your own bakery. I got a degree in marketing and have worked in marketing for over 20 years. So I think that will give you a great foundation. Sometimes marketing people are not as strong on the quantitative side. For a business owner, this can make or break you. I would suggest considering a minor in finance (managerial finance if it's available). You don't need to know how to do tax audits, but your business will sink or swim on your ability to manage your balance sheet, your income statement, and especially your cash flow.

Dr. Terrell’s Answer

While it is helpful, I don’t feel it as a necessity, ultimately I believe it comes down to how and who you hire in your business.

Mike’s Answer

Entrepreneurship is more about taking the risk and trying it versus spending exhaustive time learning it. That said, you will need some education. Here are a couple of sites that offer courses for very little money that will give you some of the skills you’ll need. Above all else as an entrepreneur, make room in your budget for marketing. That is the most significant driver of your success.
