High School freshman volunteering/shadowing opportunities in healthcare/bio medical field?
Hi,
I'm a freshman in High School interested in bio medical field. I'm 14 yr old. I would like to volunteer/shadow in my summer time but I see the min age requirement is 16 yrs almost at all places.
Can I get guidance on how to utilize my summer time, are there online volunteering/shadowing opportunities, how to approach to request for in-person shadowing? Please help me here.
Thanks

Hello,
Consider volunteering at your local library to build your people skills, even though it's not healthcare-related.
Red Cross: Explore the chance to organize a blood drive. High school students are welcome to apply.
Juvenile Court: Volunteer here to gain insight into the legal system.
Schools: Reach out to your school to see if they offer any volunteer opportunities.

As a high school freshman interested in healthcare or the biomedical field, there are several volunteering and shadowing opportunities you can explore:
Hospital Volunteer Programs: Many hospitals offer volunteer programs for students. You can help with tasks like greeting patients, supporting staff, or assisting in waiting rooms.
Long-Term Care Facilities: Look for local nursing homes or assisted living facilities where you can volunteer. You might help with activities or spend time with residents.
Health Clinics: Some community health clinics welcome volunteers to assist with administrative tasks or health outreach programs.
Blood Drives: Volunteer for organizations that run blood donation drives. You can help with setup, registration, or serving snacks.
Shadowing Healthcare Professionals: Reach out to local doctors, nurses, or technicians and ask if you can shadow them for a day to see what their jobs entail.
Science or Health Camps: Look for camps or workshops that focus on health and science. It’s a great way to learn and meet others with similar interests.
Research Labs: If you have access, consider reaching out to universities or research institutions to see if they have programs for high school students to observe or assist in labs.
These opportunities can help you gain experience, meet people in the field, and learn more about what you might want to do in the future!

If it's hard to get volunteer work or job shadow in your local hospital or healthcare offices due to age, you can always talk to your PCP to see if there is any way you could job shadow at their office.
