You can be a nurse without a masters degree.  You can become a Registered Nurse with a 2 year degree, an Associate Degree in Nursing, or a 4 year degree, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  The MSN is typically for someone who is looking to go into advanced practice nursing like a anesthesia, midwife, admin, education.  Many employers are seeking those with their BSN over an ADN, but many nurses will start with the ADN and then pursue their BSN while working.

Amy K.’s Answer

Yes, you can work as a nurse with a bachelor's degree in nursing. There are two types of nursing at the bachelor level - BSN and RN. The only nursing jobs that require a master's degree are things like healthcare management jobs, nurse practitioner, etc.
