Biology and journalism is a really cool combination of majors! The first thing that popped up in my mind was scientific journalism. One of my close friends who studied journalism is currently working at Scientific American. While he didn't major in the sciences, having such a background would certainly be helpful and make you more competitive for the role. For publishers like Scientific American, they are looking for individuals who can relay scientific concepts and news in a way that many people can easily understand. Good luck!

How can I incorporate my interests into my future career? How can you not?! :) You will spend at least 50% of your after-college years in your career - you'd better LOVE what you do! Not only will you be great at your job, but your passion creates opportunities outside of your daily work. And what better way to love yourself than to invest many many hours into doing what enjoy, are good at, are appreciated for, and are growing in just because you are passionate about it.

Most people truly admire (even envy) those that are masters in their field. Spending hours upon hours doing what you enjoy (sometimes at the expense of sometimes even taking a break or eating) is something you will never regret.

Intentionally plan it, prepare for it, and execute with conviction. Keep in mind this is an iterative process. You will continue to refine your goals, ambitions, and plans; it' a part of the process of coming face to face with your destiny. Become who you were meant to be without apology!

Sonya recommends the following next steps:

Create a spreadsheet of your interests, gifts, talents, likes, AND dislikes. Don't overthink it. This is a private exercise so be honest with yourself about what you are interested in.
Look closely at your spreadsheet. What are the repeating themes? What's not there? (add) What do your dislikes say about your character, your pursuits, your experiences? Date and record these observations (great journaling activity!)
Map the top 10 gifts/talents to a career. Your counselor can help you with this or there are several websites to help you. Also ask adults that know you well and that you trust. Ask specifically 'can you see me in this career?'
Frame your courses, college picks/tours around the major that provides the greatest depth of knowledge in your career direction. This should eventually turn into the top 5 or so colleges you apply to.
Get your Masters degree in your field. Execute your plan. Never look back.
