What degree is best for working as a game programmer?

I am currently studying to get a degree in Interactive Media and Game Design, but would it arguably be better just to get a degree in computer science?

Ed’s Answer

If you are in a game programming degree track and you are making games as part of that program then you're probably in the right program. Before there were degrees in game programming, or if there wasn't a school offering one nearby, a lot of people majored in computer science. Now there are more specialized schools and so you would probably be better prepared for the specific skills needed to program games. Now if you might change your mind and later decide to pursue a job programming payroll systems for Wells Fargo, then you might consider computer science.
