College life is scary at first but then it becomes exciting and fun. You're scared initially because it's usually the first time you're living away from home and you don't know anyone. It may even be the first time you've had to share a room with someone. But after the adjustment period you get excited about meeting new people, going to different places and getting involved in clubs and organizations.

College can be a lot of fun when you consider that there is basically a party somewhere very weekend and no one is telling you when you need to go to bed, even during the week. You can hang out as much as you want and where you want. You make your own schedule so if you're not a morning person you can have your first class start in the afternoon. If you prefer to get things over with you can start at 8am. You can even schedule all your classes to fall on specific days so you can have a free day to do whatever you want. You are truly independent and it can be a very rewarding experience.

As good as all this sounds you have to remember that while socializing and being independent are some of the things that makes college so great, you are also there to get your studies done so you have to be careful not to over do it.  Realize that no one will be on top of you to make sure you get your work done, get to class on time, wash your clothes or clean your room. It's all on you. That's not to say you won't have resources available to help you such as professor office hours, peer tutoring, study groups and the guidance office but you have to be the one to take the first step. No one will do it for you.

If you stay focused and disciplined you can have a lot of fun and a very memorable college experience!

Rachel’s Answer

College life requires a lot of discipline if you want to maintain an excellent GPA. You should start college planning to study every day. Attend your classes. Do the homework. When you find a class difficult, attend office hours early in the semester. If you continue to struggle, get a tutor.
